Abstract: We intend to investigate several historical attempts to establish the intuitionistic counterpart of classical modal logic. Since 1948, there have been various attempts to axiomatize intuitionistic modal logic, giving rise to many intuitionistically inequivalent logics. Accordingly, researchers have raised multiple criteria to decide which method gives way to the "true" intuitionistic modal logic. While most of these arguments are technical justifications, few have ever addressed the problem from a philosiphical point of view. We will go through the main results and important techniques from literature, and in the mean time, try to reflect upon the qestion of how to understand intuitionistic necessity and possibility.
