Abstract:
According to Susan Sontag, collective memory is what the collective chooses to remember. Then the natural question to study is the process by which a group ascribes collective importance to events and their remembering. We discuss a formal model for the emergence of such memory, based on signalling and reinforcement. While we can characterise the class of predicates represented by such systems, logicising such reasoning seems to be quite challenging.
