演讲题目:From Montague to Discourse Interpretation(从蒙太古语法到叙述语义)

This talk will present an overview of the problems besetting Montague Grammar's treatment of anaphoric elements in language, of Dynamic Semantics' approach to solving those problems, and some shortcomings of Dynamic Semantics which motivate a richer theory of discourse interpretation, SDRT.

演讲题目:Applications of Discourse Structure to Problems in Semantics

In this talk Prof. Asher will outline 4 applications of discourse structure: temporal anaphora, propositional or abstract entity anaphora, VP ellpsis and presupposition.  The main points of a particular formal theory of discourse structure and interpretation will be briefly outlined.

演讲题目:The Pragmatic Semantic Interface towards a theory of meaning: a Liberal View of Linguistic Content

In this talk Prof. Asher will look at the traditional various theories of meaning, distinctions between pragmatics and semantics, and argue for a more inclusive but underspecified theory of semantic content that can be further specified and refined by pragmatics.

演讲题目:Building Discourse Logical Forms

This talk will discuss the logical and conceptual difficulties in building a logical form for a discourse that includes a rich discourse structure.  Such logical forms must be constructed from a number of distinct information sources and involves essential use of nonmonotinicity.  In addition, to specify the contribution of compositional and lexical semantics, we need a detailed understanding of underspecification.  His lecture will concentrate on these two concepts: nonmonotonicity and underspecification.
